Old Business
John made a motion to accept April Lyon as PAC Vice President, since she was not present at our last meeting. Motion passed unanimously.
PAC Memberships : Membership and sponsorship forms went out with the July 23 rd along with other school information to all students' families. We have received 15 memberships so far. It is good that the mailing went out early, that way we received memberships earlier. Krissy Sims is handling memberships. She is out of town until August 19 th . Nanci Lemanowicz made sure to have membership form and sponsor forms put on the LRHS website.
Concessions: Kim Fitzsimmons reported that concession stand cleaning will be the week of August 17 th . If anyone can help, please let her know. Mammoth Pizza contacted her regarding selling pizza in the stand. Discussion. In the past, we have tried pizza and burritos. They sold, but didn't sell well. We will keep an open mind and possibly pursue idea.
Steve Moss, who presented the idea of having a slushie machine in the stand two months ago, e-mailed us that he has none available to put in the stand for this fall, but is currently working with WCPSS about having one available in the cafeteria for students during the school year. He suggested we move it out for sporting events. Dr. Gainey stated that he didn't think this was going to be approved.
Carole Davis will be contacted again this year to run the concession stand during Soccer season. Kim requested the she receive a membership to Sam's Club to purchase inventory for concessions. John said that he will get one for her soon.
Coach Hamilton reported that Wake County Public Health Dept. contacted him regarding our concession stand. They stated that in Wake County, there is a requirement to have a grease trap installed. The cost would be around $20,000. There was discussion. We will not install one. In the meantime, instead of boiling hotdogs in water, we will use the microwave to prepare.
Camps : Fred Wollman reported that final number of campers was 422. This is an increase of over 12.8% from last year's final number. The total gross profit was $34,664.31, half of which is the Coaches share, so the PAC ended up with a total of $17,332.00. . We had 6 complaints overall, which were consisted of minor complaints. The coaches did such a wonderful job. Our camps are really part “day care”, but the enrichment they receive goes far beyond the babysitting service we provide. The new Cheerleading coach was great, and really made the last day of camp extra special for the girls. We had a great group of volunteers as well. There were so many parents that came up to Fred to compliment him on the great job the PAC had done at running the camps over the summer.
Golf Tournament: Nanci Lemanowicz reported that plans are underway for the golf tournament this coming fall. We are going to make this an alumni tournament this year. The event falls on October 6 th , which is also homecoming weekend against Wakefield. Shotgun start will be at 1:00p. Danny's BBQ will provide a free BBQ dinner for all players. We will have a tent set up at the school that night, (which is sponsored by football moms) for all past alumni. It would be great to get over 100 golfers. Nanci has spoken with Wildwood Golf Club, and everything is set. Mike Stainback, who is a past LRHS parent, will help us again this year with sponsors from his business. Nanci is working on getting some great prizes and additional sponsors.
We will also be making a donation to the ACS in memory of fellow PAC member Sue Zagiba, (as of 8/3/06, a portion of our proceeds will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation instead of the ACS at the suggestion of Dale Zagiba).
Spirit Committee: Karin Long reported that she is not going to head up the committee this year, and that we need to find a replacement. Spirit committee chair is responsible for planning events for Homecoming, Senior night and of course, Spirit night. Cheerleading meeting is August 7 th @ 6:00pm, at which time, a representative should be at the meeting to find a replacement.
Bricks : John reported that plans are moving forward for the brick project. We have a spot inside the football stadium that we plan on moving the bricks to. There will be room for 288 bricks. The project has been approved by WCPSS. State Construction will be doing the work. Once the current bricks are in place, we will start our push to sell more bricks to fill up that spot. Once people see the bricks in place, we think that they will want to purchase a brick.
New Business
Picture Day: Picture day will be August 17, 2006 @ 9:00 am. We will need at least 2 PAC members there to take the names of students as they line up for pictures. Janice Schmittle and Kim Fitzsimmons volunteered to work that morning.
Coaches Night: John Lemanowicz asked for help from Janet Nichols and the Football Moms that they head up plans for Coaches night. Janet stated that they would do that. Nanci Lemanowicz spoke with Carolina Ale House, they will provide hot wings. Janet will contact Chik-Fil-A and Quiznos to see if they are willing to donate chicken nuggets and sandwiches. Football moms will then provide desserts. The Coaches night will be held at our home game against Apex on Thursday, August 31st .
Wish List: Coach Hamilton passed out an updated wish list to the PAC. Discussion at the top of the list included a contracted maintenance program for the two practice fields, including weed control. It was suggested that we find parents who have students at LRHS who may be interested in providing us with a bid to do the work. There was some discussion regarding the softball field and the placement of concrete around the bleachers in the softball stadium. Coach Hamilton stated that we are really in need of two new golf carts. The last ones, he believed, cost $800.00. Motion passed to purchase two new golf carts.
Blankets : Mark Slawson put on a partial demonstration at our last PAC meeting regarding a fundraiser for the school. At the meeting, he had a complete demonstration which included a sample of his tapestry throw that he designed just for LRHS, along with a fundraising idea, brochure and price list. The entire group concluded that they thought the throw was beautiful, and that it was going to be something that everyone would want to purchase. The retail price for the 50 x 70 tapestry throw would be $60.00. The cost would be around $23.00, which would include shipping. There was a lengthy discussion. Mark stated that he already has clients that want to purchase the throws. With the money that is raised, we will then purchase something in memory of Sue Zagiba that could benefit the school. We will talk with the Zagiba family to see if there was something special that Sue felt the school needed, or something the family feels Sue would have wanted the school to have. John Lemanowicz will open an account with the company who will be manufacturing the throw for LRHS . There is typically at a 2 week turn around time to get the throws. John stated that it would be great to have some available to sell at the new student orientation on August 23 rd . Motion passed unanimously to move forward on this project and have them ready in time.
Recognition : At the conclusion of the meeting Dr Gainey presented John Lemanowicz, president of the PAC a plaque in appreciation of his leadership role and commented on how much John was respected.
